Artist Statement
My forms explore paleontology, particularly dinosaurs. I believe in creating pieces that resonate with me, and dinosaurs are something that I’ve always been captivated by. Dinosaurs are loved my many, and creating dinosaur-themed work is a great way to connect with people. It’s always rewarding to see the excitement on people’s faces when they encounter my work, knowing that I sparked some passion for their dino fancy.
I am currently exploring different methods to incorporate dinosaurs into my work, through decals or by leaving a silhouette of a dinosaur that exposes the raw clay body. I focus on creating pieces that are earthy to reflect the natural earth that dinosaur fossils come from. It’s amazing how being close to raw earth can be freeing to the soul, and I find I’m drawn to texture and color from nature. By combining the fun, playful nature of dinosaurs and raw earth, I hope to evoke a sense of awe, appreciation, and enjoyment for the beautiful creations we have all around us. |
Fun FactThe dinosaur used for Ceramisaurus Pottery's logo is not a T-rex. It's actually a ceratosaurus. There are a couple of pronunciations of this word; It can either be pronounced Keh-RAT-oh-sore-us or sir-AT-toe-SORE-us. The way I was introduced to it was sir-AT-toe-SORE-us.
Ceramisaurus Pottery is a play on words. Ceratosaurus. Ceramisaurus. Get it? According to the Natural History Museum of Utah website, Ceratosaurus means "horned lizard." It was a carnivourous dinosaur that lived in the late Jurassic period around 150 million years ago. |
